# Terraria | How to Change your Terraria Server Version

# How to change your terraria vanilla/tModLoader server version

||| **Note:** If you're switching between server types, make sure you switch the type first, and then finally proceed with the version-changing steps below.

## Step 1: Access the Startup Page
* On the game panel, locate an option or tab labeled **"Startup".** Click on it to access the server startup configuration.

## Step 2: Change Terraria Version
1. On the Startup page, scroll down to find the "Variables" section.

2. Depending on whether you have a Terraria Vanilla server or a tModLoader server, you will see different settings:
|| **Terraria Vanilla Server:** Locate the setting named "Terraria Version."
|| **tModLoader Server:** Locate the setting named "tModLoader Version."

3. It is crucial to enter the correct version number for a successful update. A single wrong or missing digit in the version number can result in issues.
|| To find the correct version number:
|| - **For tModLoader:** Visit the [tModLoader Releases Page](https://github.com/tModLoader/tModLoader/releases) to find the version you wish to install.
|| - **For Terraria Vanilla:** Visit the [Terraria Server Downloads Page](https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/Server#Downloads) to find the version you wish to install.

4. Click on the field below "Terraria Version" or "tModLoader Version" and enter the correct version number you want to install.

## Step 3: Update Terraria Version and Install
1. **Select Your Current Server Type:** Just above the `Variables` section, choose your existing server type from the options.
   - **Note:** If you're planning to switch server type, please refer to the initial note provided at the beginning of this guide.

2. **Wipe Files (Optional):** In the same `Server type` settings section, find the `Wipe Files` option. Tick this when changing server types or downgrading the terraria version for a clean installation.

3. **Install:** Once you've selected your current server type and, if needed, wipe files, click the `Install` button.
- The installer will begin, downloading and installing the chosen Terraria version.
||| **Important:** Do not reload the page while the installer is running, as it will be automatically refreshed upon completion.
